Lexend

Lexend is a variable typeface family specifically designed to enhance reading proficiency through scientifically-informed typographic principles. Created by Bonnie Shaver-Troup and Thomas Jockin in 2018, Lexend applies the 'Shaver-Troup Individually Optimal Text Formation Factors,' with research demonstrating that readers instantaneously improve their reading fluency. The typeface was expanded in 2021 by Font Bureau (David Berlow, Santiago Orozco, Héctor Gómez) with nine weights from Thin to Black, and extended to Arabic script by Nadine Chahine. Lexend's variable font support provides seamless weight adjustment across its entire spectrum. Originally built on Andrew Paglinawan's Quicksand (2008), Lexend represents a purposeful refinement for readers with low reading proficiency, including those with dyslexia.
